Beyond the beaten track. Where adventure, skill and the elements collide.
Some assignments start with a shot list. This one started with a long trek through deep snow. Organised by Legend Element in the alpine wilderness of Thredbo, near Mount Kosciuszko, this snowkiting expedition took us far beyond the usual event setting and into a landscape where nature dictated the conditions.
With a long-standing passion for action sports — from freestyle BMX and skateboarding to surfing and skydiving — photographing this event felt like a natural fit. Reaching the location meant hours of walking through snow, carrying equipment into the mountains before being rewarded with clear blue skies, rugged peaks and ideal conditions for the riders.
The challenge was to capture more than the action — it was to tell the story of the adventure itself. From riders harnessing the wind and gliding across the snow to the scale and isolation of the alpine landscape, the photography documents the skill, commitment and freedom that make snowkiting so compelling.
The experience pushed us beyond the familiar, both physically and creatively. Several images from the expedition went on to receive recognition in Capture Magazine, making this project a particularly memorable milestone in our action sports photography journey.
